Emmetsburg Public Input Survey |
The City of Emmetsburg, Emmetsburg Municipal Utilities (EMU), and the Emmetsburg Community School District (ECSD) are seeking public input for the future vision on the community.
The City of Emmetsburg, Emmetsburg Municipal Utilities, and the Emmetsburg Community School District have kicked off a strategic planning process to identify community and organizational needs and develop a consensus-based community-wide strategic plan for the City, and organizational strategic plans for EMU and ECSD. As we look into the future, input and ideas from the community are vital. The planning process will involve extensive public input through a questionnaire and small group interviews to ensure plans that reflect the needs and ideas of residents, school district families and businesses. The Steering Committee is currently seeking opinions through a public input survey.
What do you want Emmetsburg to look like in 2027? What do you think the community’s strengths, challenges, needs, and opportunities are? What ideas do you have - big or small - to make Emmetsburg, including the school district and municipal utility, better? Please share your thoughts and ideas by taking the public input survey, available online through the city website at emmetsburg.com/plan. Hard copies of the questionnaire are also available at Emmetsburg City Hall, the Emmetsburg Public Library, West Elementary, and the Emmetsburg High School. The survey will be open through Monday, November 23.
Your responses will provide valuable insight, increase the effectiveness of the strategic planning process, and help guide the city, municipal utility, and school district to plan the overall goals and objectives for the future of Emmetsburg. The City, EMU, and ECSD thank you for your participation!

Purchase Chamber Bucks Like Never Before! |
Message from the Chamber of Commerce |
You have heard the saying, “Sometimes less is more”. As we move into holiday shopping during this COVID Pandemic, let’s think of this in a new light. “Sometimes less is more. Less driving. More Local.”
The Emmetsburg Chamber is pleased to make shopping a breeze for you who are interested in a one- size-fits-all gift…Chamber bucks! These can be spent at any chamber member business or you may designate them to a single Chamber business by having that business’ name written on the top line of the Chamber buck itself. Denominations are $5, $10 and $20 and never truly expire. There is a date to motivate spending them, but expired chamber bucks can be reissued by returning them to the office for new.
Chamber Bucks will soon be available online at www.emmetsburg.com/chamber. Online orders will be mailed to the purchaser or right to the recipient in a holiday envelope complete with a list where they can be spent. Online purchases are for the value of the bucks plus 3.5% fee for processing and postage fees. Call 712-852-2283 for more info.

ECDC Continues Investing in Spec Housing |
When there are 30 homes for sale in town, it may seem like Emmetsburg has plenty of housing. However, when you compare the number of housing units for sale to the total number of housing units in the community (1,818 according to 2020 ESRI® Location Data), less than 2% of homes are available. That’s a very tight market for those looking to purchase a home in Emmetsburg. Understanding the shortage of housing in Emmetsburg and the lack of spec housing being built by the private sector, the Emmetsburg Community Development Corporation (ECDC) made the decision to invest in housing development. ECDC is doing their part to ensure that housing will not be a barrier to attract and retain Emmetsburg’s workforce and population.
Within one year of breaking ground on their housing project in the Rockport neighborhood, ECDC has sold one spec house, one is on the market, and one is in under construction. ECDC is working with the Iowa Lakes Community College Construction Technology program this school year to build a three bedroom, two bathroom home with about 1,450 square feet of living space on the main level. Students are gaining valuable skills through hands-on learning while also contributing to the growth and vitality of Emmetsburg’s housing market.
Follow Emmetsburg Community Development Corporation on Facebook or visit www.emmetsburg.wixsite.com/ecdc to learn more about the project and ECDC’s homes for sale.
