RAGBRAI® T-Shirt Design Contest |
|
|
The Emmetsburg RAGBRAI® Committee is calling on local designers and artists to help design the official Emmetsburg town t-shirt and theme for the RAGBRAI® 2022 overnight stop on July 26, 2022.
The winning design/theme will be printed on t-shirts and sold to residents and RAGBRAI® riders alike. The design/theme will also be used on marketing materials for the event. The winning designer will receive a free t-shirt and $100 in Chamber Bucks.
The deadline to submit a town t-shirt/theme design is Friday, April 1st. Members of the Emmetsburg RAGBRAI Marketing Committees will select the winning design through a blind judging process, meaning the judges will not know who submitted each design.
Designs may be emailed to emmetsburgragbrai@gmail.com, or submitted by mail or in person to the Emmetsburg Chamber of Commerce: 1121 Broadway Street, Emmetsburg, IA 50536.
Submission guidelines:
Use of the RAGBRAI® name or logo are not allowed. Designs should be kept to three colors or less. Contest participants should consider how well their design will scale up or down. The contest winner gives the Emmetsburg Chamber/ RAGBRAI® Committee exclusive right to use the winning design.
Questions may be directed to Deb Hite at 712-852-2283 or Gretchen Reichter at 712-415-1142.

City Announcements
St. Pat's Safety
St. Patrick's celebration in Emmetsburg is always a special time of the year for Emmetsburg. The Police Department is again reminding everyone to stay safe during the festivities.
We like to remind those at the parade to sit back and enjoy the show. Please keep a close eye on your little ones as they gather the sweet treats/gifts and please stay back to give the parade floats room.
Also, the Emmetsburg Police Department has received Grant funding to provide extra enforcement. There will be a larger group of law enforcement officers from local, county and state agencies that will be cracking down on impaired driving. Please drink responsibly and always have a sober driver.
Pet Licenses
Have you gotten your pet license(s) yet? Emmetsburg City Code, Chapter 56.02, states that every owner of a dog over the age of six months shall procure a dog license. The annual license fee is $5 for each male or female dog, and $3 for each neutered dog. To license your dog, you must have a current veterinarian’s certificate showing that the dog has been vaccinated for rabies.

Sign up for BoBB for a Fun Evening
Message from the Chamber of Commerce |
|
|
The long cold days of winter are drawing to an end and the hard work of RAGBRAI has begun, so how about making time for a little fun? We all deserve a reprieve and what better time than to have an evening of fun at the Emmetsburg Chamber’s Battle of the Businesses Bowling Event!
This event has been postponed twice and no foolin’, we are not changing it again! Friday, April 1 is the date and Shamrock Lanes is the place. There are two flights, 4:30P and 7:00P for a total of 16 teams. Nine-pin tap is the game. Team prizes will be given for high and low scores, most creative bowling shirts, and 50/50 cash split for green pin strikes! A taco and fajita bar will be served by Don Jose’s Mexican Restaurant and beverages are available from Shamrock Lanes. Just $50 gets 3 games of bowling, shoes & ball, a great meal and a good time.
Can’t you just hear the laughter, the clash of the bowling pins, and feel the stress just melt away? Call the Chamber at 712-852-2283 to register yourself or your team. Business sponsorships of all sizes available and some even include bowlers.
Managers, who are looking to provide team building or reward opportunities for their employees, may find the Battle of the Businesses Bowling Tournament right up their alley! Spare yourself a dull evening and strike out for some fun!

Pedestrian/Bike Safety Projects Planned
Community Visioning Committee Awarded PACGDC Grant Funding
The Emmetsburg Community Visioning Committee wrapped up the 2021 Community Visioning program late last year and immediately began work to tackle several project elements identified through the visioning process. At the city scale, Emmetsburg has a number of gaps within its pedestrian and bicycle mobility network. Many community spaces are not connected with dedicated pedestrian/bike facilities, so the Visioning Committee developed landscape and transportation enhancement concepts, including a "Community Connections" concept with proposed mobility enhancements for primary transportation corridors that would better connect many of the city's schools, parks, and community hubs. These enhancements include enhancing the existing pedestrian/bike lane on N Superior, creating new shared-road pedestrian/bike pathways, and installing a new safe crossing at Harrison Park.
|
|
|
Harrison Park Safe Crossing:
Last Friday the Palo Alto County Gaming Development Corporation (PACGDC) awarded the Visioning Committee $6,644 for the installation of push-button rapid flashing beacons and a crosswalk at the intersection of Highway 18 and Call Street, just south of West Elementary |
|
|
|
|
Community Connections - Pedestrian/Biking Pathways:
PACGDC also awarded the Visioning Committee $4,496 for the enhancement of the N Superior pedestrian/bike lane with green pavement paint, painting sharrows on the road along selected corridors/pathways, and new “share the road” signage. Sharrows are white pavement markings showing a bicycle symbol with two chevrons on top and/or bottom that improve safety on streets that are too narrow for designated pedestrian/bike lanes. Sharrows indicate a shared vehicle and bicycle/pedestrian lane and warn motorists that it is an important bicycle/pedestrian route.
The Visioning Committee will work closely with the City of Emmetsburg, Emmetsburg Police Department, and Iowa Department of Transportation to complete these projects. The Committee aims to complete work by the time RAGBRAI comes to town on July 26.
